J-Curve Strategy: Capturing Pre-IPO Value

BVF IV enters just before the growth curve steepens — the “J-Curve” moment. This is the sweet spot where businesses require capital and institutional guidance but offer the highest return asymmetry. By providing need-based external support (financial advisory, governance, recruitment, communication), BVF IV drives value creation until the company is IPO-ready, and exits at peak institutional valuation — ahead of retail volatility.

Proven Track Record

BVF IV builds on the legacy of Series I and II, with a focus on execution, selection, and outperformance:

  • 100% of prior portfolio had >85% promoter holding
  • 100% were first institutional cheques
  • Growth Support offered across all investments
  • Asset-backed businesses prioritized (96% in Series II)

 SIDBI Backing

SIDBI, under its Fund of Funds for Startups (FFS), committed ₹60 Cr to BVF I (IIOF). Following a standout exit with a 7.5x+ return within a year, SIDBI issued a formal letter praising:

  • Realised capital returns (not just paper gains)
  • Superior decision-making and timing
  • Strong exit discipline in a tough market
  • Validation as a government-backed, benchmark-worthy fund

BVF IV is powered by The Wealth Company and supported by a network of expert institutions:

The fund targets businesses with strong profitability, ₹500+ crore turnover, and proven track records. Its strategy is centered on early institutional entry at deep valuation discounts—typically 30–40% below listed peers—enabling significant upside at the time of exit.

The fund aims to raise ₹3,000 crore, with an additional ₹1,000 crore green shoe option, totaling a corpus of ₹4,000 crore. The fund tenure is ~66 months, and it offers a 15% XIRR hurdle rate, with a minimum investment of ₹1 crore. Uniquely, the fund charges no setup fee, prioritizing investor-aligned terms. The strategy includes active ownership, with robust involvement in governance, CXO hiring, business expansion, and fundraising—positioning portfolio companies for successful IPOs or strategic exits.
