About Fund Manager

Naveen Chandramohan:Founder and Fund Manager

ITUS Capital’s Founder and Fund Manager, Naveen Chandramohan, believes in a shared commitment to progress, an idea that distinguishes him and ITUS from other participants in the sector. He thinks that asset management organizations should embrace a fiduciary role in working for investors and aligning the fee structure for customers, as one of India’s best portfolio managers. Itus is owned by the firm’s workers, who approach the business with an ownership perspective.

He has a strong track record of managing money, having been named the top fund manager in Hong Kong by Asia Hedge between 2012 and 2014. He manages a growth strategy at Itus that invests in cash-flow-driven growth, which protects the portfolio against downturns. Previously, joining ITUS Capital, Naveen worked at Hutchin Hill Capital HK Limited as the Responsible Officer and Portfolio Manager, where he was in charge of launching an EM Equities Event-Driven Fund with a capital of $250 million across geographies. Until 2015, he was also a Partner of Oracle Capital Ltd, a Hong Kong asset management business. Naveen was born and raised in Chennai and holds a professional certificate from the famed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bangalore, as well as a bachelor’s degree from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS). Naveen has received several awards and distinctions over his 12-year professional career. One example is that as part of a project, he co-authored a research paper that was just published in the Journal for Networking and Communication. Nokia is sponsoring this event. As part of a MEMS project, he also built and conceptualized a micro-robot.

Investment Philosophy

ITUS Capital Fundamental Value Fund focuses on generating an alpha of 5-8 per cent over the index. Their key focus lies in growth-oriented industries.

The companies that enter the growth portfolio bucket have the following features:

  • FCF growth of more than 10 per cent over the last five years. The EBIT margin should be increasing.
  • Smooth sailing through business cycles
  • ROC should be preferably greater than 20% (ROA measure for banks)
  • Higher return profile for companies having less than 10,000 market cap
  • For small-cap companies, estimated returns should compensate for the loss of liquidity.

Unique Feature

Invest and manage portfolios of growth-oriented businesses
